MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING (circulated previously)
MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
MULTI-SIRE FERTILISATION
Recent changes to Australian Racing Rules have enabled the use of multiple sires on a bitch provided that agreement has been achieved from both stud masters. This rule was introduced with little or no consultation with industry participants - NSW are interested in the views of delegates.
SPONSORSHIP
With the recent sponsorship provided to the McGrath Foundation “Go the Pink Dog” - a number of welfare groups have targeted the greyhound industry as being “cruel” and used Facebook to distribute their distorted message. This has resulted in a “re-think” by a number of sponsors who have not wanted to become involved or targeted. Delegates are urged to give serious thought to this matter for discussion at this meeting.
SUPPRESSION OF OESTRUS
A review has been conducted by GA with respect to the use of the approved hormone. To date, this review has not been provided to the industry. It is common knowledge within the industry that there is unauthorised use of Testaprop to keep bitches off season. Delegates are requested to make enquiries within their own state for methods utilised (whether approved or not) to allow a full and frank discussion at our meeting.
GAP -
The promotion and utilisation of GAP is essential to help silence our critics with respect to “cruelty” and animal welfare issues. As an Association of affiliated owner/trainer bodies we need to provide the respective state GAP administrators with as much assistance and cooperation as possible. Your thoughts and ideas will be welcomed.
